TIM OF PEOPLE WHO MUST PT 1

Recently, PEOPLE WHO MUST bassist Tim Arbisi was gracious enough to talked to us by phone about the new lineup, their impact on the net & more.

LL-Hey Tim, it's great to be able to talk to you. How's response on the new cd been?
TA-Really good, really positive. We sent it off to a billion different labels, we sent out internet promo packs, connected to mp3.com. We've got some publishing stuff in the works. Fanwise, people don't expect lokal band to put out double cd's. I think most people wondered if it was like a double live think. The internet has turned out to be a major springboard for us. We sell a lot of disc in Italy. For some reason they like us there, all our European sales are concentrated there.

LL-So you said in your newsletter you guys are already working on a new one.
TA-Yeah. This is going to be an interesting cd. We got a lot of flack for me saying this one was gonna be different. I feel it's gonna be more rootsy sounding. I don't know exactly how to describe it.

LL-On your double cd, entitled The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters, the first disc is actally The Sleep of Reason and the secong is Produces Monsters. How did you decide what songs to put on what disc?
TA-That's more a question for Joe. The first disc is what would have been our new disc while the second one is studio outtakes and rarities.

LL-So what's your fave song on the cd?
TA-Well, I don't know. I enjoy playing them all. I guess "Scarecrow". That what we close our shows with. We were playing in some town the other night and I broke an "e" string. I looked at my backup and wondered whether I I should switch or continue in a diiferent position. I kept the same bass on and we kept playing. It's hard to just stop momentum during that song.

LL-So what's the story of Russel (Jarret-drummer) leaving?
TA-Rus had been with it for nine years and he was just tired. Tired of always being on call. He never could plan anything. He just got tired of that kind of stuff. Night after night, bar after bar, it can get old if you're not in that mindset. I think he was just ready for a normal life.

LL-So now Jamie Jones is playing with you guys.
TA-Yeah. He's working out great and adds another vocal to the mix. He's a different kind of drummer than Rus. John (Kolbeck PWM guitarist), myself & Jamie occassionally play together as Shug. (Short for Sugar).

LL-So when's the next Augusta show?
TA-May 19th at Joe's. It'sll be the first time my folks get to see me play in Augusta. They've only got to see me play once, in Statesboro.

Stayed tuned for part two coming soon.
