The new biography KILL 'EM AND LEAVE: SEARCHING FOR JAMES BROWN AND THE AMERICAN SOUL is due out on Spiegel & Grau Hardcover on April 5th. The release, the latest by best selling writer / musician James McBride, follows the novelist as he travels across the south interviewing some closest to the soul/funk innovator including some who had previously never spoke on record about James Brown including a cousin revealing more about Brown's childhood in South Carolina. Other interviewees include those who were there in the creation of the Godfather's sound, Brown's long-time manager, and the Reverend Al Sharpton.

One of the most personal parts of the book touches on the late Michael Jackson sitting up all night with the body of the Godfather at an area funeral home.
