March 15, 2016 / by John "Stoney" Cannon The James Brown Family Foundation along with the City of Augusta and Friends with Benefits have teamed up to bring back the James Brown Birthday Bash on the music pioneer's birthday, Tuesday, May 3 at the Augusta Common. The event benefiting the James Brown Academy of Musik Pupils aka JAMP, run by James Brown's daughter Deanna Brown and former Brown music director / guitar Keith Jenkins, will feature a band made up of former members of the James Brown Band and include appearance by special guests Sharon Jones, George Porter Jr. (The Meters), Ivan Neville (Dumpstaphunk), Ty Taylor (Vintage Trouble), Chris Rob (Nasty Delicious), Jennifer Hartswick (Trey Anastasio Band), Gavin Hamilton (Funk You), and Greg Hester. Gates for the all-age event will open at 5:30 with the JAMP Masters taking the stage at 6:30 and the James Brown Band and guests scheduled to perform at 8pm.
